I'm sure that all of you have seen this, but is there a way to stop it?
My little Phil(4 months) is the kind of fuzzi that acts dead when I put a collar or harness on him. I feel bad about him "slugging" around so I take it off, otherwise he finds a tight spot somewhere and manages to slideout of it. Did I wait too long to try to train Phil to wear a collar, or am I not trying hard enough.
What can I do?[ferret][^]

When we got Shasha we did the collar and the leash. We would put it on her and just let her go, but watch her at all times so she wouldn't get hurt or hung up on something, she eventually got use to it, but we did not hold the leash at first, we didn't wan to seem like we were forcing it.

Kaytee is the same stinkin' way !! hehehahahahahahaha As soon as the harness goes on, she flops down and will not get up. When she does decide to walk in it, she acts like she is drunk. It just takes some getting used to. I only put it on her when we are going outside. So now she kinda knows that is what it means, although, I have to put it on a go out right away. She does not have a problem outside, I guess because she is so distracted.

| Frodo and Gizmo are the same way when we put on harnesses to go for a walk. I look at it as a blessing because our Sam goes squirrely and gets so excited we sometimes have a heck of a time getting it on.

I'm 100% with skunk on the collar issue. If your fuzzbutt doesn't like collars don't force one on him/her. If you really want you ferret to wear a collar out of fear he'll escape and need ID, you should only put the collar on him for a few minutes at a time until he gets use to it. Increase the incriments as time goes on.
As far as the harness goes, use the same method as the collar. My opinion is that 4 months is too young to go outside, anyway.. not to mention the harnesses are usually too big for them! I have a little girl named Terrible who is 5 1/2 months, and she slips out of her harness easily. She also goes totally ballistic when I put it on her. I'm not even gonna attempt to take her outside until she's big enough for me to secure the harness on her, like I can with my other three.
