| They wanted a personal essay because they wanted a way to get an idea of what each applicant is like. When I apply to vet school my essay will be MUCH different. I see what you are saying about the vet school essay. This essay for the undergrad application was very casual actually. They had me submit it in within the online application. I had to write into into a box just like I am writing this post into a box right now. Weird huh? Some bad news though. I found out I don't meet the transfer requirements in math for CSU. These requirements are NON negotiable. The office of admissions said that its because they had sooo many transfers coming in with sucky math skills. Here are the requirements: http://admissions.colostate.edu/AdmWRBlk.aspx?PgID=156 I have ALWAYS struggled with math. My high school math courses look like this: Algebra 1: D Geometry: A Algebra 2: D Trigonometry: A Since I didn't get all C's or above thats out the window. I got a "D" in my college quanitative reasoning course despite going to tutoring for 2 hours a week (i got the WORST teacher ever) So thats out the window too. I called the office of admissions and they told me that the only other option for getting into CSU and fulfilling the math requirement would be to take the Math Placement Exam. Its a 50 question 2.5 hour, online test and if you don't do well they toss out your application. I could do the test but I honestly don't think I'll pass. That doesn't mean i wouldn't TRY though, but I did start to think of other options. It occured to me to check out the Bel-rae institute, a vet technitian college that gives you an associates degree in vet technology in 18 months. Its located in denver (not my favorite place, but i could always live in a neighboring town and go to school in denver). I would attend Bel-rae for 18 months, during which time I would take a math course that would be transferable to CSU and be sure to get a c or higher in it. I would graduate with my associates degree in 18 months, get placed in a job in the vet tech field, and then apply to CSU. I would finish my undergraduate degree in Biology at CSU and then I would apply to vet school. Sure, it will add some extra time to how long it will take me to become a vet but I'm not going anywhere and atleast I'd have a career as a vet tech as a job as opposed to working at target while going through school. That equals MONEY! I'm quickly learning how to take lemons and make lemonaide. So now I'm seriously considering attending Bel-rae. These are my reasons: 1. I would live in CO while attending Bel-rae and thus would be able to establish residency in CO. So when I went back to my undergraduate degree and applyed to CSU I would get IN STATE TUITION! annnddd when I apply to CSU as a grad school that would give me the ability to ALSO apply for in-state tuition. CHA-CHING! 2. It would look really good on my application to vet school to have an associates degree in vet technology. 3. I would get first hand experience in the field which would allow me to see what I am getting myself into as a vet. 4. Sam and I would be in a much more liveable environment he TOTALLY would be able to sell a TON of cars in Denver (he's a used car salesman and he is REALLY great about what he does because he is so charismatic and he doesn't want to screw people over) 5. Attending Bel-rae for 18 months would be much more inexpensive then attending a 4 year university for the next 18 months. 6. Its a really great school for vet techs that provides you with first hand experience. They stick you right into the operating room to prepare cats for surgery or have you hold a horse while they give injections in addition to having you study in the classroom. It really peaks my interest. 7. I'd learn basic first aid for animals and things such as how to give shots and remove sutures. No more going to the vet and paying tons of money for shots or to get stitches out! And if my fuzzies ever got sick I would be more qualified to keep them stablizied until I could get them to a vet for further examination. 8. If I'm a vet tech I'd be working in a vet's office and would be recieving discounts on vet services. That means that basic adrenal treaments like Lupron for Delilah would be less expensive. 9. Working in a vet's office equals KICK *** letter(s) of reccomendation from the vets I work for! (who more then likely are CSU graduates!!!) 10. I'd start working with animals MUCH sooner then if I waited 7 years to graduate from vet school. So those are my reasons. I have to talk it over with Sam but my mother thinks its an EXCELLENT idea. It means so much that she's supportive. She never went to college herself but without her I wouldn't have made it to college myself. She helped me find tons of financial aid money as well as a program at my current school for students with learning disabilities, such as myself. To be honest I was choking back tears on the phone when I was talking to the admissions people at CSU and they told me I didn't meet the requirements. Math has always held me back and it really upsets me. But now it seems that thinks are working out for the better. I think going to Bel-rae is a better choice then attending CSU right away. Heres to everything working out! Sorry this is so long. You guys are really great people and I love talking to ya'll and your support rocks. I just felt like typing all this out and getting it all of my chest would really help me out. And it did. So i'm glad I took the time to fill you all in on my situation.
