| In case you are interested, we posted this article on the News and Notes section of the website. -Critters Moderator Survey Says Consumer Confidence in Pet Food Remains High By Rose Gordon Despite a recall that has dragged on for two months, consumers remain confident about pet food and its brands, according to a new survey commissioned by the Pet Food Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based association that represents pet food manufacturers. Seventy percent of pet owners that responded to the poll conducted by a third party polling agency said their opinion toward pet food at this time is “favorable” or “very favorable,” Duane Ekedahl, president of the institute, told Pet Product News International this morning. In addition, a similarly high number of pet owners said they are sticking with their original brand of pet food, Ekedahl noted. And although hundreds of brands were affected by the recall and many media reports indicated pet owners turned to home cooking for their pets, sales of pet food declined by only 3 to 4 percent during the last four weeks, he added, citing statistics from Information Resources Inc. “Those numbers indicate that we have a recovery here and that in fact the consumer has maintained their confidence through this and in the product,” Ekedahl said. The recall, which continued as recently as last Thursday with Chenango Valley Pet Foods’ expanded recall of dry items including a ferret diet, caused significant confusion among pet owners and the industry, which the institute aimed to combat.

| Hahahahahaha............(inhale).......hahahahaha! whoo.....okay...pulling myself together. I don't know how ANYONE could be 100% confident in petfood anymore. Have you seen the number of foods recalled? If you could see a complete list you'd realize that HUNDREDS of foods have been recalled. I'm not crucifying petfood, I'm just saying that I DONT believe that a large majority of people have the same level of confidence in pet food as they did BEFORE the recall. How could anyone be confident? The petfood companies have really let us all down. Not only that, but melamine tainted food was fed to pigs and chickens, that were later consumed by humans. THAT is scary.

| I found the article interesting, especially since even manufacturers are being cautious and pulling food just for a possible cross-contamination, even though their product wasn't made with the contaminated ingredient.

| Confident? I am scared to death! I almost choked on that article. It has spilled over into ferret food from cat food (I also have three cats). I know they are doing what they can now, and are pulling the foods they thing may be affected, but at what price? The animal testing that must now be going on is frightening. These are our pets and our family members. Why wasn't something done beforehand to prevent this?

| Survay, schmurvey! I think it is just a way for a huge industry to keep people blindly buying their products! I am soooooo glad I don't feed a kibble diet! I even contacted my rodent suppliers and they assured me they don't use any of the foods noted in the recalls. Could they be lying? Certainly! Same as the pet food industry could be lying about their tainted products - lord knows they certainly lied to consumers who were paying premium prices for supposedly premium products - yet it still contained MANY of the ingredients as the low cost store brands! I can't for the life of me think how ANYone that lost a pet, or had a pet become ill from those tainted products - could say they are still 100% confident in the pet food industry! We lost our cat, and since the small dog would often finish up what the cat didn't eat the vet said the dog may develope problems later! As a consumer, I know full well that when I get burned by a brand or mfr - I NEVER buy that product again! But then again, I did not take that survey! Regards, JosiesMom
