| Well I have a ferret named Toby he is still pretty new to me... i have only had him for about 4 or 5 months now..... i got him litter box trained.... and thats about it... he is pretty good to me. i love him to death ...... Sumtimes he shakes?? is that normal???? is he cold? i try to keep his room nice and warm along with his cage but i fear maybe it isnt warm enough.... and i have bought like 6 different kinds of treats.... he doesnt eat any of them... he just isnt interested. like he only eats when he wants to..... but i wanted to attempt to clicker train him but thats kind of hard seeings how he doesnt eat treats?..... i want to be like the best mommy i can be for him and i fear im doing a bad job or sumthin???? PLEASE HELP ME !and give any advice you feel is needed in owning a ferret thanks..... Liv

| Welcome to the best board around !!! as for shaking most ferrets do it right after waking up my fuzzy does it some folks like monkey, dark light and the rest can explain it better than I can again Welcome !!! Ghost[ ]

| Hey there Liv. Don't worry Im pretty sure everything is JUST fine. Some ferrets just DONT like treats. I know it sounds weird but not all people, animals, or ferrets are motivated by food. You could try Ferretone (a vitamen supplement, so don't give more then it says on the side of the bottle) many ferrets like the taste, even ones that don't like commercial ferret treats. As for the shaking, sometimes my guys do that to. They can be cold, sometimes they do it when they just wake up, etc. If he is acting normal, eating, not having any problems, hes most likely just fine. I looked on your profile and your about my age. So i sent you a private message you can check it by looking up at the top of the page and clicking on "messages". You aren't a bad ferret parent, don't worry. Everything will be just fine.

HI Liv,
A ferrets body temp is 102 degrees f. The reason for the shaking is to warm themselves up. Their body temp drops well they sleep. Just make sure your hands are warm or that your fuzz butt has a blanket to warm in. It is total normal and nothing to worry about. Another reason that some ferrets shake is because they get to excited.

| I know this is a late reply, but I must include a very important fact. On the "common knowledge" side, one would think that the ferret is cold or excited and, hopefully, it'll be just that. On the "medical" side, shivering or shaking is a early sign of insulinoma. For more info, I've posted a link to check out. http://www.craftycreatures.com/forferretsonly/ask_angela/sleeping_too_much.html I'm not trying to scare anyone nor should you be. Insulinoma can be managed through several methods and medications that will allow the fert to live on happily. The first couple posts explain when it is normal to observe shivering or shaking. If the shivering is inconsistent and uncharacteristic, then take the fert to the vet just to be sure. You can never be too careful when it comes to ferrets.
