| You all may have met the new man in my life, Fozzy! A six year old champagne ferret suffering formseveral years of what appeared to be OED - Obsessive eating disorder! With a station at the bottom of the totem pole in a business of ferrets, what else is there to do but eat? His history repoerts he's always been a laid back kind of guy and the other ferrets pretty much ran rough shod right over him. He and his girlfriend Faylene came to live with the Empress Josie and me on June 24th. Formerly both had only known kibble diets and their previous folks were a bit apprehensive about them moving to a Natural prey/raw home. I assured them that the switch would be totally up to the ferrets and yesterday was only the 15th day and BOTH ferrets have decided to leave the kibbles alone! I am just ecstatic! SUre it puts more burden on my finances, but I am hoping this will help add more years to their lives. Already I am amazed at how lively both are becoming! Faylene and Fozzy have learned to kill mice and Fozzy has decided he just absolutely relishes their flavor! I was kind of worried when he killed his first mouse and chewed it up but reallly didn't eat it. He kept toting it around with him and started hacking and gagging everytime he'd pick it up! At first I thought something was stuck in his throat , but he drank just fine and only hacked when the mouse was in his mouth. Josie eventually found where he's hid it and ate it. Faylene killed her first mouse but did NOT eat it -Slinky the snake got that one. But last night offering them each another chance. They both proved they can be successful predators ( well as good as shooting fish in a barrel anyway). Because I didn't give the mouse much of a chance to run free. Still the mouse made them each learn to follow the movement. Fozzy apparently has better hunting instincts than Faylene because he got his mouse dispatched in a VERY short time. Faylene took a couple minutes, but she gets faster each time. here is a link to Fozzy's video - do NOT, I repeat do NOT view it if you cannot handle mice as food or live mice as food! I'll ignore most any derogatory comments anyway, so don't bother trying to get a rise out of me. The video is in no way gorey or gross - just nature taking its course, there is no blood or guts and the mouse is NOT tormented to death like so many cats do. These older ferrets are gaining a new lease on life with this program and are no longer just laying around with disinterested looks on their faces. Fozzy has benefitted immensely because he is trimming down, toning up and getting more active each day! Faylene regularly does wall banging war dances now and she too is no longer "squishy" feeling, but feels like a muscular, lively ferret! here's the link: http://media.putfile.com/Fozzy-Kills-3 tonight just before I wrote this fozzy ate mouse number four! Captured it fairly quickly as I let it loose on the bathroom floor. Faylene killed hers, but didn't eat it, which is o.k. because Josie or Fozzy will eat it. Faylene may or may not decide to eat the mice she kills - time will tell. Cheers! Kim
Josie made me do it! I had to build this just for her! www.vanityferret.com [ ]
