You may need to give them a 2nd dose of the Frontline.
*(Speak to your Vet on that)* Is your Vet Ferret Smart?

Another thing is to "Clean House". Meaning their
bedding, sleep sacks, hammocks etc.. Launder them
with a mild color safe bleach and detergent. Fleas
can be very frustrating. Go here for more advice...

i had the same problem with my 7 month old ferret, Puck. you just hav to clean him once a week, and clean his "house" onec a day. its hard work but its worth it. also ferrets can die from blood loss b/c they cant keep up with the amount being taken out so take care!!!!

We use Advantage for canines. We get the large size and then use .10cc of Advantage each month for each ferret. Plus we clean daily after the devestation of the little one's play time. When dealing with fleas it is warfare. One female flea can lay up to 200 eggs a day, and these eggs can lay undistrub for up to 2 years.  With ferrets using flea bombs can affect or harm the ferret, so you have to rely on other methods like Advantage and good old fashion vacuum cleaner. There is this product called Orange Guard and it is all natural and recommended for use around pets, and it is suppose to help block or stop insects from invading the house. Have not tried it but it can be found at Ace Hardware stores.

With fleas you are looking at infections and allergic reaction from the flea bites on your ferrets more than the blood loss.

I used Revolution for kittens in the past for one of my ferrets. It was very effective, safe and easy to use. That ferret had an immune system deficiency that ended with Juvenile Lymphosarcoma. I personally, am allergic to flea bites so I am on the constant lookout for signs of fleas.

If your ferrets are scratching to the point of hair loss or thinning in spots - you have a severe problem.

The 6 I have now are not showing any problems with fleas. I still have some of Josie's Revolution left and will use it if needed. But I think the biggest issue flea problems present is getting rid of the original infestation- in their bedding, housing and surroundings. You have to be VERY careful of the products used.

A simple yet effective treatment would be simply steaming clean the carpeting or flooring, and boiling their bedding as well as cleaning their cage with boiling water or steam.

Good luck! Kim

Josie made me do it! I had to build this just for her! www.vanityferret.com []

This is a little old, but I'll share anyway. I had this problem recently! I got my ferret, Hanso, around christmas time. He was a surprise for my boyfriend so I kept him at my moms house until christmas. Well she had fleas and he caught it from there. When I brought him home we noticed that same night because we wanted to bathe him.

I took him to my vet and they gave him Advantage, it's for kittens, since he is only 4 months (on the 30th of this month) so he was about 3 months then. I used it once, we got a different brand for my cats, washed everything and bombed the entire apartment and haven't had a problem since.

It was excessive, but necessary. Hope that helps []
