| My little girl Peekaboo has been eating non-stop since I brought her home from the shelter. She is eating a mix of Evo Innova and Marshalls at the moment (I'm switching the girls to Marshalls) However I've noticed she seems very thin, at the point where I can feel almost every bone in her body. What can I do to fatten her up in a healthy manner? I've had a lot of people mention raw diets however I myself am a vegetarian and would prefer not to have real meat in my house if I can avoid it. :[ Please help I'm worried about her
The happy owner of Precious and Peekaboo.

| When my little ones are sick and lose weight, I feed them a mixture of A/D cat food (prescription). Then once they feel better they start on their other food, which I feed is Natural Gold. I tend to stay away from Marshall's due to the corn in the first 5 ingredients listed. Corn is very hard to digest. I would recommend that the food that is fed to them is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Get the girls use to different types of ferret foods like Totally Ferret, Zupreem. Avoid 8in1 due to the corn levels, and anything with fruit in it. Make sure they have food accessible to them as they are free feeders, which means they only eat when they are hungry, which can be every 3 - 4 hours. Ferrets have a high metabolism which requires them to have food available. This will help them fatten up. Also get them use to A/D cat food. This can be purchased a your vets. Reason is after about a year in age, it is harder for the ferret to recognize new foods. They have to be imprinted on the food. After a certain age that part of their brain actually shuts off. So it will be harder for them to recognize new foods. As far as raw meats - I feed mine cooked chicken. I use a George Foreman grill and I don't use any oils or spices for the chicken. But that I use a treat. Some love it, others well ignore it. I do have some eating a cooked hard boiled egg for protein. The best thing is to make sure they have the food available. It's high in protein, low in carbohydrates, and in a few days they should start to gain some weight.
