| i was just wondering, i have had indy for a little over a year now and whenever i get him food at the local pet store i usually get him marshalls food and a can of ferret treats which is just a mixture of different things covered in a peanut buttery coating. now i seen the last time i was there they have ferretone/ferret shampoo/ferret urine and stool deoderizer/ ferret time out spray to get them to stop scratching and biting and ear cleaner, i was wondering if i could get some 2nd opinions on what stuff people buy for there ferrets and any recommendations of what to buy for him heres a picture of my indy, he is about 2 years old.

| I feed my ferrets Mazuri ferret food and use yesterdays news for the litter box. I use old pillow cases and cut off sweat pant legs for bedding. I use Marshall's flea and tick shampoo and the spray. I have 4 dogs and sometimes my little ones get some of there "friends." I also have the Marshall daily spritz but only use that once in awhile, there natural smell is not so bad! Of course they goto the vet for there shots and I give them heart worm medication once a month that I got from the vet. It is in a liquid form. Hope this helps.

Mind you I've raised about 30 ferrets. I use Ferritone or Ferratone, for my babies. They just go crazy over them. It helps them digest and it helps me get their nails cut. They are busy licking it off of their bellies so I they forget I'm doing their nails. They also can be trained to do tricks if they are going to get it as a reward. I use to use the ear cleaner, but I find a wet q-tip will work also, just squeeze the water off first. Just moist. Not dripping. I use the ferret shampoo, Marshall's the green one, I buy the the cream rinse. Make them squeaky clean and prevents their bodies from itching. They are great, but I don't shampoo them very often. I do have "one" that has bad B.O.,vet says just some have bad B.O. like some humans do, but if you keep the beds changed it keeps them clean and odor down. I always, always look for sales at Petsmart or Petco. I go to the cat area. Things are cheaper. I get the clearance items. I find beds and things and check them for safety and durability. I usually get some great ones. Of course I have to purchase the hammocks. I go to Drs. Foster and Smith's online for them. I've use the bitter apple to stop the biters, but the phooey from Petsmart or Drs Foster an Smith will definitely stop some of the bad behavior, I got it in my mouth once and it lingers for hours. I forgot I put it on one of mine to protect her neck from my male and I scuffed her with my mouth to do her nails and it was terrible. I've used the stuff for their water, never noticed a difference. I use the Marshall's pellet type of litter, if you have a co-op near you, you can use the pellets for the wood stoves also. But I don't think they absorb the urine. I don't have a co-op, so I order my in bulk from Drs. Fosters and Smith, it's a LOT cheaper by the bulk. I get the 50 lb bags and store it. I feed them TotallyFerret and sometime the Natural Gold mixed in with the Totally Ferret for added protein. I found that Petsmart is selling water bottles that NONE of my ferrets like. I think it is because they are actually for the animals that have the large front teeth. These have the little metal rod that comes out of the middle of the water spout that the other animals tap with their front teeth. My ferrets all prefer the roller type. It makes sense they use their tongues for water, like a cat.
I've only had one problem with fleas, got one from a family that had fleas and used the kitten and ferret flea med on it and they were gone. I've never ever had to de-worm any of my ferrets. I've never seen any or the vet has never seen any. Used Acidophilus and duck soup, my own is easier. Can't break down the one from the store down to put in a small syringe. It's lumpy. Never used hairball remedy, ferratone helps. As soon as I see the hair coming out I pluck it until I get it all. It is like moulting, just grab and it comes out, don't stop until you can't get anymore. The treats are great from the petstore for ferrets. Just watch the sugar in their treats. No raisins anymore. Bad for their kidneys. Anything else just e-mail me.
Sorry for the long list.
