Im thinking of getting one of the 11 pannel ferret playpens with the lid/mat thing that goes with it. I was wondering, if any of you own one (i think monkey does) is it worth it and will 5 ferrets be able to play in it without being crowded?

I was going to get one so when its nice outside I can bring them out to play in the grass without having to harness all of them and worry about tangled leashes.

Also- which company model do you have? theres a Marshalls one and a Prevue one.. how sturdy are they?

Yup Darklight, I do have one. I got an 8 panel one online for $20. I used craigslist. Its WAAYYY worth it to wait for one to pop up on craigslist then to buy one IMO. I am waiting for another 8 panel or 11 panel to become available so that I can add one to my current one. Then pen is invaluable when it comes to letting the fuzzies play safely outside, but to me its not worth the money that the stores charge for it. Thats why I reccomend looking on craigslist and also placing an ad on craigslist. []

We just took the ferrets outside in the grass in their playpen today. It IS crowded in the 8 panel pen with 6 ferrets, but an 11 panel pen for your five kiddos should be just right for outdoor adventures. I like to put sticks and branches, leaves, rocks, etc into the pen along with tubes and tunnels to create a fun and inviting area for them to explore.

I have a marshall pen, but the other pens are EXACTLY the same. They are all nice and sturdy. If you can wait, I'd reccomend craigslist, but if you want one NOW then I'd buy one online, they last a long time and my ferrets love being able to go outside.

I went looking around online and at FerretDepot.com they had a bundle set- the 11pannel, the cover/mat and a 20ft super ferret threw way toy for i think it was $109 after UPS ground Shipping because they had to send it in 2 different boxes of stuff. That play pen was also the Prevue one (made from the same stuff my current cage is).. The only other thing id probly get with it is that tote bag to keep it put away in

Hey darklight! I don't have a playpen but it's on my wish list! I do plan to get one during the summer. I think it's a great safe way to have your kids outside for hours (weather/heat permitting)...

I also think it would work great as a portable cage say if you wanna take your fuzzies somewhere, e.g over relatives or whatever and want to have a cage where you go... you just break it down put it with the rest of your luggage and put it back together once at your destination. I was thinking whether it would be even better to get two mats if you wanna use it as a cage elsewhere.. one for the bottom and one as a cover...

I know at some point I will need a pet sitter [] My mother in law is moving back to greece as soon as she sells her house.. possibly any time during summer..so.. there goes my pet sitter...sigh... I have something in mind but that would be at the pet sitter's place.. I'd have to take my fuzzies there... so taking their own cage with them would be a drag...whereas a playpen would work as I said above...

Monkeypooh never heard of craigslist but it sounds it's definitely worth the wait...or I might get impatient and just buy the actual one for whatever it costs.. although I'd agree it's expensive..

your ideas about the sticks and rocks and this and that is awsome...great stimulation lol. I'll keep that in mind []

Overall I think a playpen is almost a must.....

[]No ferrets? No fun![]

Oh man skunklove, Craigslist is a must lol. google Cragislit (insert your city here) and click on the section titled pets. You can find anything you need. I found a crate for Apollo for only $40 (when it was $100 in petsmart) and I got the ferret's playpen for $20 when it was $60 online in the stores. WARNING....there are animals for adoption on craigslist, just thought I'd warn you lol, but its a great  place to go to look for cheap or discount pet stuff. You can also find housing (for yourself) and furniture, and all kinds of stuff online. YOu can post an ad for free. Its really great.

I too am interested in a playpen for my babies. I saw one in a petstore here for $29.99, which from what i've seen through this forum that can be rather expensive. I have 2, and was wondering if this 8 panal one you speak of is plenty big for them. I'm not sure how big the one I saw was, as it was just a thought but it wasn't very high which was the reason I chose not to get it. If i'm not mistaken it was only 15 inches high, and when Bella and Brute stand on their hind legs, they are at least that tall.

I've been doing searches for things for them through ebay and local pet stores but i'll have to go to craigslist, i've heard so much about that site.

Any info you can give me on what size to look for and whatnot would be great.

I know I just posted the reply above, but I wanted to let you guys know that I visited Craigslist and in my area as well as surrounding areas there is nothing for sale for a playpen so I went to good ole faithful ebay and found so many different ones at really great prices. They have short ones, tall ones, ones with the mat and everything. Just go to www.ebay.com and type in ferret playpen and a huge listing will come up. I'm on the search now, I wasn't sure about getting one but it will allow my babies to play and scamper without the worry of where they are.
