Ok I have a question I am new to ferrets so bear with me. I just got a 3 month old neutered male 4 days ago and decided to go back and get another one. Well when I put them both in the cage after playing and bathing them the one I first got started to bite the other ones ear and shake and tug on it. especially when it was drinking or in the hamock. I just want to know if I should be worried about this or not,

I love my whirling dervishes =)

Young ferrets have a tendancy to suck on the ears of another or slightly chew on them. Unless the ferret who is having the ear chewed on is chittering or screaming in pain, I would just monitor it. Normally they will work things out and ear sucking could be a sign of comfort or bonding. The only time I would seperate the two is if there is the panic poop, or blood drawn. I hope this helps.

I believe that your older ferret is simply trying to declare dominance over the new addition. It is a normal routine whenever a new ferret is added to the cage. You should notice that it happens less and less over a period of a couple of weeks.

It is almost normal for the kits to suck or chew on the ears of their cage mates while they are still in the teething stage, or feeling the urge to nurse. (Our newest kit still tries to nurse on my fingers when he's tired.) I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck with your furry little friends.
