Carefresh and Yesterday's News are good brands of litter. I use some odor control stuff for Bun Bun, it's called Bi-Odor, a little bit of it is supposed to be put into the animal's water every day, and it works really good.

My neighbor has 4 ferrets and she uses 'Yesterday's News' (newspaper made into pellets) and her ferrets stay pretty clean: you have to smell very deep to get the 'ferret smell'!

We use wood pellets,(not wood shavings or chips)there about $4 for 40 lbs make sure its hard wood not pine read the bag only takes about a cup in the back of a big high back pan dont use to much or they will dig and play in it, also we drilled a bunch of holes in a 5 gallon pail to get the dust out ( pour pellets in pail spin and shake it and most of the dust comes out)we had to try different kinds to find stuff that dosnt smell like wet wood when it gets used.We tried other litters and it was to expensive or stunk like cheap perfume.our ferrets are at least 90%in the pans and if they miss its generally because some pee didn't drain back and they wont stand in there own stuff to go so they go next to the pan to show you that you need to get on the ball.Another tip is to cut off the nubs on the back of the pans or do anything to increase the angle so everything runs back and change them often with the price of this stuff you can afford it.When it gets wet it turns to wet saw dust. Any litter they will use? Really, if you can get them into the box and doing their business consistently, you're doing a pretty darned good job!

Personally, I use "Yesterday's News"; it's eco friendly, does the job pretty well, and comes in gigantic bags for dirt cheap! Even better, the "cat" version is the exact same as the "ferret" version, and is usually quite a bit cheaper!

More generally, stay away from clay, shredded wood, "clumping" litters, and anything that is dusty. Some suggest staying away from wood entirely, but the jury is still out as to if it is dangerous or not; the decision is yours, but since there are so many litters that are proven safe, I'm not going to risk it...

You may need to clean their litter every day. I have to do that with my 9 little fuzzies. Also, one may not like "doing their business" where the others have been, and will dig out the litter. Ferrets are also known for "snorkling" in clean litter and kicking it out.

[size=4]We use the black pellets, ferret litter from Marshall's. That is the only kind I've tried. I have three ferrets and they make a big mess and I need something that they can't though all over. Does anybody know if unscented cat litter or sand would work.

And also, What good for controlling odor of the feces and urine in the litter box?
We clean they're litter box every other day as needed.
