hello!

i just wanted to say that instead of a wheel, i have a flying saucer for my chin. it looks like this

he loves it!

as for hide outs, i have 2 cardboard tubes from the pet store. just remove the fuzzy material from it before giving it to them. i also had an edible grass hut, which he ate, that i need to replace!

hi, i have had chinchillas for about five years know.. and not to toot my own horn but i do know quite a bit about them.. they are very delicate creatures and you need to be careful with them so they stay healthy.. you'll also read on something about your cage bottom and how to fix it so that your guy's feet are a bit more comfy.

please go to my website, i have a page with pertinate information, its not the chinchilla bible there is so much to know.. but it is a great start. then there are great links on the back page. it explains about cages, wheels, where to get save wheels, what the quality foods are, bad foods are, safe and unsafe.. i touch just about everything at least a bit, except breeding..

i also have very inexpensive items and the are all chinchilla safe...

I have found from personal experience that having a wheel in the cage is a necessity because chinchillas have so much energy. I have always kept alfalfa hay and timothy hay in their cage as well. In addition to supplying essential vitamins and minerals it helps to keep their teeth worn down. I have also found that they enjoy ferret hammocks and tubes. They also like to chew on and play with wooden, hanging bird toys, especially with bells (but I was warned to stay away from the grapevine toys and the ones made with rawhide). My trick to keep boredom away is to buy or make several toys and switch them all out every week to keep them stimulated. I hope I was of help to you and good luck!

If you get them a wheel try to ge a solid one. This won't hurt their feet. Mine dearly love their wheel and run on it a lot.

I NEED HELP..NEW TO CHINCHILLAS

I just bought 2 new chinchillas for my kids.i bought a 3 level ferret/critter cage.I made sure we got the right food,treats,lava chew stones,dust bath,soft bedding.We also were told to get a wheel for them to be able to run.Yet, I read on here it could hurt there little backs? Also, I was told to get them a hiding house,like 3inch round PVC pipe,cut in 10inch sections. I ordered a 300 pg.book about taking care of chinchillas.But, It will not arrive til the 31st .I don't want to wait that long to make sure they are comfortable,an have all they need..I will take any kind of comments or suggestions any-one that knows how to care for a chinchilla may have.Thanks so much.
