I currently have 1 female and 3 males. They are ALL fixed (spayed/neutered) for health reasons. They can get sick if they aren't and are not used for breading (which you really shouldn't be doing). There are WAY too many homeless animals, I know I work at a shelter and I have 2 rescue ferrets and 1 rescue cat.

I ended up with 1 female because I was ferret sitting a couple of my friends ferrets and my female attacked her female. She was shaking visiusly at her neck and I thought she was going to kill her. But she left the male alone. She gets along greeat with the 3 males that I have now and all the boys get along too.

So basicly I think any combination will pretty much work, it depends on the ferret. Like people they are all different!

I have three females and a male and they all get alone fine. They're split into two cages, though but all four of them still play together. I've had a male and female in the past and they worked out nicely. The only combination I haven't seen much of is multiple males, but talking with fellow fuzzy owner friends they haven't seen any problems with that either.

Depends on your fuzzies and your personal preference, I suppose.

where I live the ferrets you get are already neutered-you can't buy ferrets that are not neutered unless you are a breeder-I have a male and female and they would be lost without each other-one is 7&1/2 and the other is 6 & 1/2-Good luck-

Usually one male and female is the best. It is strange that a male ferret would beat up the female. A good idea would be to get them spayed and neutered, also both of them getting their scent glands removed.

Hello. I have had three pairs of ferrets over a 18 year span. I have found that two spayed females are the best. They bond very closely and are more like sisters. I currently have a male and female ferrets. The male is having dominance issues and is beating up my female. We are working with Sammy, but they have to be caged seperately. Our two previous ferrets Charu and Snickers were females and were so close. They would take care of each other when sick. We lost both of them within a month of one another from cancer. I truly believe they were so close that they were not apart from one another even when Snickers died. Charu followed her soon after. A male and female is the best combination you can get if they will live together, because males will fight and with some species of small animals, two females will fight. One male and one female is the easiest way to have animals because they will become friends faster and the chance of fighting is low. Just make sure to get them both spayed or neutered because sometimes they get territorial if they aren't. And if none of them are... ugh. I hate to say it, but the last thing this world needs is more animals because look at the number of homelesses already.

I'm getting some ferrets soon but I'm not sure what combination to get?! I know about the females needing to be mated when in season so I'm looking for the best and cheapest option. I'm going to get 2 so wondered what you recommended?
If I have two males will I have to get them castrated? or can i keep an entire female and vasectomise the male? If the females are spayed do they still need to be mated? Ideally I'm like a male & female. What do you think?

Please help....my head hurts!
