What you're feeling is completely normal, at least for us furt lovers. They wiggle so deep and get such a hold on your heartstrings that you don't even realize it until they're gone. I felt exactly the same way when my first ferret died, and he was only 6 months old, and I wasn't there when he actually died either. It was so much more painful than when my cat died, and I'd had her for many years. The best help I can think to offer is DON'T BE AFRAID to get another one. We didn't get another for several months after Pixel died, but a week after he died a friend gave us her ferret and she helped us SO much. She just got sick recently and we thought we were gonna lose her and the two new ones we had bought right before she was sick helped a lot. You'll always miss him, and I'm sorry for your loss. It takes time, but it DOES get better. Hang in there!

RE: My Kimet passed away, need support

I'm so sorry Sharon. I am alway devastated when this happens. They get into your heart & are like our children. Remember the good times & he will always be with you. At present I have 11 fuzzies. Most are rescues.

Becky

RE: My Kimet passed away, need support

Also, one of our columnists experienced two of her fuzzies passing. Perhaps it could help you relate to read her articles about them. My thoughts are with you. Have you looked to see if there are any pet loss support groups or numbers you can call? Those can be so helpful at times.

If you haven't already you might also want to make an Angel page on Club Critter here on SmallAnimalChannel. I know many ferret owners that have created one and it has helped them to communicate with other ferret owners during the hard time. Perhaps after you've had some time to grieve you can celebrate Kimet's life by doing that.

My Kimet passed away, need support

Hi I found this website and since nobody understands what I'm going through I thought I might post here. Last Friday I came home and went to let my ferret Kismet out of his cage and he had died while I was at work. That morning he had been happy and playing. I was in complete shock so I took him to my vet and they examined him and said his spleen was extremely lage and they thought he may have had a small tumor that ruptured. A month ago he wasn't feeling good and they said his spleen was a little large but sometimes that's common. He's been eating and playing as normal. I felt so bad because I wasn't there when he passed but they said it happened so fast there wasn't anything I could've done. This pain is more intense than when I lost a dog or cat and nobody seems to understand because I don't no anyone else who has ferrets. Kismet was my 2nd ferret. My other ferret passed away from adrenal disease. I miss his dancing, cuddling and his little kisses. Thanks for letting me post.
