Our Gerbil is approximately 1/12 years old as we got him (unknowingly) when he was probably a teenager. I had no idea about gerbil size both baby and adult but i'm STILL a great pet even though my learning curve is a bit longer. My Mommy and Daddy are older ( middle aged and retired) than anyone we know with a rodent of any kind.

I just want people to know that Gerbils make great pets for the elderly (don't tell my parents that !!!) as they require little maintenance, have clean cages and NEVER bite the hand that feeds them, or even those who don't! (although they chew EVERYTHING in sight!) So bring on those empty toilette paper rolls and you'll soon be rolling on the floor with laughter!

All About Gerbils

Gerbils are so cool! They are simple to take care of and cute!!

Life expectancy: 3-5 years (my friend had one that lived to 6 1/2 years!)

Popular Breeds: Mongolian, Lilac, Agouti, Golden Agouti, Egyptian

Food refilling: Fill with new food every other day.

Water Refilling: Every Day

Cage Cleaning: Once every 2-3 weeks.

Hot tip: DON'T give your gerbil a bath in the water. It can get a life threatening diesese, wet tail diesese. This causes your gerbil to get sick and possibly die. If your gerbil is a little STANKY, buy it some Chinchilla sand to roll in. I give it to my gerbils and they are SHINY!
