So last night I was hearing tapping sounds from the drawer below my oven. I figured it was another Deer mouse, so to find out I covered a plate with flour so I could see if I needed to bait my live trap. (I hate snap traps and poison, they are wrong.) For bait I always used peanut butter, however I remembered the disgusting bean muffins (yes BEAN muffins) and icky banana muffins. My father's friend's mother in law had baked them. He took one bite and put it back. So I decide to use up the muffins. I pull a piece of the banana muffin off and put it on the plate. Then I put a piece of the bean muffin on the plate and put a dab of peanut butter on it. Then I put it in the drawer and go to bed. When I wake up, I check the mouse bait. There has been a mouse. Pawprints and some of the food is missing. The banana muffin and the peanut butter were gone, but every crumb of the bean muffin was there. I can't blame the Deer mouse. I mean BEAN muffins? YUCK! I had to share this. I hope it makes you laugh.

That happens to me every once in awhile. Mice are super fast and can come in when you open a door, or they can come in through a small hole. I'm really noisy, so they don't stay long. Hope that you have good luck in getting rid of your visitor.

Are you sure it's a mouse and not a rat? Have you tried using cheese for bait? The only other thing that's not lethal is an ultra sonic mouse repeller. The downside is that it would probably affect your pets in a negative way.

Yep, it's a mouse for sure. I saw him/her last night. The trap is set. Should be caught in a day or two! Cheese would make a good bait. Thanks for helping!

Sorry, I had a busy day yesterday and didn't have time to log on. The Deer mouse has been caught and released in a woods a few miles away. And the bean muffins have been thrown out!

I'm happy that you were able to catch the mouse and release it without having to kill it.

I'm glad that you are posting on the forum. I hope that we will get more people that are willing to post and will continue to be active here.

Thank you. I really enjoy the forums and try to post often. While I'm not an expert, I do know some stuff about small animals and try to help as many people as I can. I also post a lot on the pet loss section because I have lost some pets and I wish I'd had something like this to share on. I like to help people, and try my best to answer all the questions I can.

I don't think so, but my live trap is set in the oven drawer just in case. That's where I've caught all the mice in the past. Right now I think the only mice in my home are Ella, Bella and Stella, my pet mice!
