I did not know where to post this, as I have been coming here to this particular board asking general question regarding my Budd-Rabbitt.

He has lived for 3 happy and wonderful years with this household. He was spoiled and was made very happy and always had what he wanted.

He passed sweetly and peacefully earlier this morning. I was holding him as he passed, assuring him he was not alone.

Fannie Mae sat quietly beside me and my cat, Kiwi knew something was wrong as well. She placed her paw over his head as he took his final breath.

I have him wrapped up in an old tee-shirt and in an old shoe box waiting to place him in my own little pet cemetary out in my yard where I have my calico cat, *Tumbleweeds*, and my little dog *Teddy-Bear*. Buddy Rabbitt will lay with them.

He will be missed deeply, and the thoughts of getting another ferret to replace him has crossd my mind, even though there will never ever be another Buddy-Rabbitt. But, with Fannie Mae being only a year and so full of energy and being use to Buddy I know she will miss him deeply too. Sometimes our local pet shop offer ferrets but actually, you have to let them know and they usually order them for you from a breeder. I really would like to find a young one from a rescue unit. This way, I would feel better about providing a home for one which needs to be loved.

Any way.....Goodbye my precious little Buddy........

Yes I decided to take him to the vet, in which, the closest and nearest clinic for exotic pets like this is over an hour and a half away, but it was well worth it to find out what was wrong with Buddy, and this is their regular vet clinic any way for their shots and annual visits and all.

For one thing, he had an impacted hairball, which caused for the wheezing and coughing as he was trying so hard to cough it out, and of course it would not pass. That was why he was not eating well or anything either as it was making him feel "full". Surgery to remove the hairball was questioned as well as ruled out because he was already so far gone, he would not have made it and I did not want to induce any more suffering to him either.

The vet and I discussed the matter and since he was so far gone I decided to make his last few moments and days an unforgettable one. (This was yesterday on emergency).

I brought him back home with me and all I did was just sit and hold him.

Since he was basically my daughters ferret, but she could not have them over at her apartment after she moved out, so, they had to stay with me. She knows nothing right now because she is at work. I know it is going to affect her dearly.

I am awaiting for Buddy to let me know when it is time for me to get anotehr ferret.

It will be a year tomorrow that my calico cat Tumbleweeds passed away due to jaundice of the liver. She let me know on my birthday the last of March this year that it was time to get anotehr kitty. So, I adopted KIWI from our local humane society. Though she will never replace Tumbles, she is meant to be with us here and through Tumbles eyes we were drawn together.

I know when the time is right that Buddy will help me find the other perfect ferret too.

One animal never replaces another, that's for sure.  But with so many out there who need a home and lots of love, I am of the sort who doesn't wait to go out and get another. You are right...you will know when it's the right time.  My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to you

i feel for your loss,my wife and i have lost 2 of our girls over this past year and both times we have said that we wont get another because it is just to painful to lose them, but we have somehow ended up with more, and even though you cant replace them, it is possible to start a new chapter of love and comedy in your life, the pain of loss will pass over time but the memories will remain. there is a fuzzbutt out there that will continue the lessons for you and you'll know it when you see it.

I'm sorry for your loss. We just lost our beloved little Maggie a couple of hours ago. She passed gracefully in her sleep, surrounded by love. Our other baby (ferret) Stich is wondering where she's at and the dogs have been very supportive.

I need your help. We have a wood nest box, any ideas on how to clean it out? Maggie passed due to old age (7 years old), but I'm still worried about Stich.

Once again, I feel for you!
