Im pretty sure my fuzzies will be making the change before the end of the week as their bag of kibble is almost done (and who wants an almost full bag sitting around? lol) Ive started purchasing chicken wings and legs. Still need to do some shopping this week for other meats as my freezer had been full last time. The countdown has begun! Ive got pedilyte and chicken baby food on-hand.

I know a lot of people in here have switched to raw. What advice for things to be on-hand do you have? What would be your checklist for the countdown to RAW-Day be if you had to do everything over again?

1. Unflavored pedialyte

2. Chicken babyfood

3. Feeding syringe

4. Ferretone

5. boneless skinless chicken breast tenderloins

6. 100% canned pure pumpkin (helps to stop severe diarehha)

7. Marshall Probiotic supplement

8. Anti-nausea medication from vet (only if necessary)

9. PATIENCE!!!!

10. 8-in-1 vitasol (ferret multivitamen)

I would reccomend starting out by removing kibble from the cage for 4 hours. Then, put a bowl of boneless skinless chicken breast tenderloins into the cage. The tenderloins should be cut up into tiny pieces, covered in ferretone, and dusted with crushed kibble.

Your ferrets will probably ignore the meat, and thats okay. After 24 hours of them not eating (they most likely wont eat the meat at first), replace the meat with fresh meat, and take 2.5 ml of babyfood and feed each ferret via feeding syringe. This will help them from getting sick from not eating, and it will also encourage them to get hungry again. This hunger should motivate them to try their new food.

Be patient. When 48 hours rolls around, if they STILL have not eaten the chicken chunks, replace the chunks again, and this time mix some babyfood in with the chunks, ferretone, and crushed kibble. This will entice them to lick and hopefully nibble at the chunks.

They will get hungry enough to try the chunks. My guys started eating their chunks in 2 days. Its really rough, but use tough love. Dont give in to their sad little pouty faces. Stick to your guns and be patient. Hunger will force them to try the new food. And once they try the new food, 99% of the time they will just love it!

Once they've been eating the chunks for several days, then you can add a chicken wing with gashes cut into the wing. They will probably start to eat it from the wing tip down.

Hope this helps you out. Good luck with the switch!

I went to Petco today to get some frozen mice, meal worms and other fun stuff. I froze liver and chicken already. Preparing for the "big day" Im hoping it to be Tuesday night or Wednesday morning with luck.

What are the probiotics for? Apparently Petco has stopped selling it and Im debating on going on a crazy mad hunt locally for the stuff or if I can do without.

probiotics are bacteria naturally present in the digestive tract that helps to keep the body healthy. I have found that adding some probiotics during the switch can help with the digestion of the meat, because it increases the 'good' bacteria in the gut.

Marshall farms makes a ferret-specific probiotic supplement, but you can also use Acidolphous tablets, which can be found in your local pharmacy. if you break them into quarters and give one quarter of a pill, per day, per ferret, they can help your ferrets tummies to be a little more settled during the switch. I didnt think to use them during my switch, but I do give them to my ferrets after they get a cold or diarehea. This helps to reset their digestive system. You dont NEED to get this product, but you can if you want. Its totally up to you. my ferrets made the switch just fine without the probiotics.

Good luck on the switch, and keep us posted! if you have any trouble during the switch dont forget you can always go to NatrualFerrets OR you can email me personally at lugnutandhendrix@yahoo.com
