I found this on BHG.com (Better Homes and Gardens):If you plan to use the meat within a week after buying it, freeze it in the plastic film-wrapped retail packaging. For longer storage, rewrap or overwrap the meat with moisture- and vapor-proof wrap, such as freezer paper, heavy-duty aluminum foil, or freezer bags. Freeze the meat quickly and maintain your freezer's temperature at 0 degrees F or below. For best quality, freeze beef roasts and steaks up to 12 months; lamb roasts and chops up to 9 months; pork roasts and chops up to 6 months; ground beef and lamb up to 4 months; and pork sausage up to 2 months.

| I prefer to only keep chicken frozen for a month or less. Freezing for months and months (although safe) seriously can reduce the taurine content of the meat. Taurine is essential in a ferret diet. I would think that as long as you include plenty of dark meat chicken, fresh (not frozen) chicken hearts, and meat that hasn't been frozen for more then a month, then the taurine content shouldn't be too seriously effected. I buy my meat once a month, put it into individual freezer baggies, roll out all the air, and freeze for no more then a month. When the next month rolls around and I'm outta meat, I go to the store and buy some more meat.

Question, I remember G once posted about some natural pills that help the ferrets go to sleep and/or stay calm while traveling.
I guess my question is, what's the name and where can I buy it? Also, how long does the affect last and how much to give them?

| Its called Melatonin:
Its a hormone naturally produced by the body. When you are sleepy, you know that rush of tiredness right before you fall asleep? That's your body releasing melatonin into your system. Melatonin is used by humans to help them fall asleep. However, its not a sleeping pill. What it does is it simply helps you fall asleep IF YOU ARE ALREADY TIRED. Melatonin can also be used to help animals relax and somtimes sleep soundly during car rides, and other stressful situations. Lastly, melatonin (pills or implants) are used to control the symptoms of adrenal disease in ferrets. You can buy melatonin at your local drug store/grocery store. Its in the vitamen aisle. You can give your ferret 1-1.5 mg of melatonin. I would say give it to them and then when you notice the effects wearing off, give it to them again. I'd wait atleast 5-6 hours before giving them another dose. One does should be sufficient for the day, though. If you buy a melatonin tablet that comes in 3mg form (like the pic above), break the tablet in half. I've found the easiest way to administer melatonin is to crush it up in a ziploc bag, mix with ferretone, and administer via medication syringe. Hope this helps. Why are you interested in using melatonin? Do you have a move coming up or something?

| Oh yes! That's right! The ones from Carolina Ferrets? When are you getting them? Also, I use the melatonin to help me sleep. Sometimes during the school year I am so tired I cant sleep (I know it sounds crazy, but it happens), melatonin works GREAT because its non habit forming. Take it and then make sure you go relax and lay down. If you take it and then you are up and doing stuff, it wont make you sleepy.
