Well just wanted to let you know that I began breeding my own mice to feed my ferrets. I currently have 6 mice. 1 male and 5 females I believe. Some of them have been gaining weight so hopefully they'll start giving birth soon.

When the females get pregnant boy will you know! They get F-A-T! Good luck with your breeding program. I think JosiesMom is also breeding her own mice, I think she posted about it on NaturalFerrets. I feed frozen-thawed mice, but if I fed live I would DEFINITLY breed my own mice, it saves alot of money. Good luck!

The only reason I decided to do this is because Genesis hasn't really been eating the frozen ones. She eats like half of it and leaves all the organs untouched. It actually looks pretty nasty. It may be because it's not fresh or it might be whatever they are eating. Plus the other day she was trying to catch one of my brother's hamsters so I'm sure she'll do okay with live feeding. Haven't done it yet though. Want to get the others before I try it.

She should take to it like a fish to water. And yes, she may not have been eating all of the mouse because it wasn't 'fresh'. When you decide to give her her first live mouse, put her in a contained area, like a 20 gallon fish aquarium or a bathtub. So that she doesnt have to chase the mouse around Good luck!

Yeah I know. I wouldn't want to be cleaning her cage everytime I feed her a mouse since I'm sure there will be some blood shed. I'll probably use the tub.

I'd talk to JosiesMom about how she feeds Josie. You can email her through NaturalFerrets or PM her through this board. She can probably help you more then me.

Does she answers her PMs? I'll do that. I'm no longer part of Natural Ferrets. I guess after awhile I just didn't want to be part of the group since I learned what I felt like I needed to learn and any other questions can be answered through some research. Plus I was getting too much mail.
