My bunch of fuzzies have been on a raw diet since early last year. They were eating a mix of chicken, lamb, turkey, duck, livers, gizzards, etc... a full variety of textures and the like. Suddenly over the last month or so they wont eat anything other than chicken. They would go 2 full days without eating (except for some baby food like when I switched to raw initially) I dont want to starve them, but I dont want them to get a deficiancy because they wont eat anything but chicken. Anyone else ever have this problem? Suggestions on how to get them to be more adventurous?

Sorry that I can't help you out much here. I'm not very familiar with feeding a raw diet. I would definately consult with a vet who is familiar with ferrets and different feeding programs. You might want to try mixing some high protien and nutritional food in with their regular mixture of raw food. Hopefully someone who is familiar with a raw diet will read this and be able to offer sound advice. Definately check with a vet for advice, though. Also, see what info. you can find online.

| Hi commandwolf9, my guys are feed a raw diet. I was told that even if my guys would only eat chicken that, that would still be ok. Most love chicken hearts and gizzard. Up until 2 months ago--(that's when I got them to finally eat whole prey also) their diet was mainly chicken wings, heart, gizzard and cornish hen. I can recommend two great raw diet groups if you're interested. Darlene,Koby&Dontae Remembering Abby&Nike

| Hi CW, Check if the chicken you are feeding has been "enhanced with solution" - it could be very possible the ferrets are "hooked" on this "flavorful broth" which is injected into the chicken. If yes, you could try a couple different things - swithc to UNenhanced chicken, or cook up some of this "enhanced chicken in a soup and then soak the OTHER raw items in the broth to absorb some of the flavor. Then, over time, slowly water down the soak until the other items are just wet with plain water. Or just go "cold turkey" and yes, when your ferrets ARE hungry enough, they WILL eat the new stuff. Unless they have some morsels stashed and unless they play your heart strings well....[ ] If you are up to it, stimulate their predator drive by offering live prey - mice, crickets, super worms, nightcrawlers, even minnows (although minnows may be fun to catch - they usually don't eat them, and there isn't much food value in them); usually after a good "hunt" their instincts kick in and they have a good feed. Cheers, Kim
