I would like to get another Ferret this will be number three.  I have one male and one female.  Both are almost a year old.  My male is very playfull, however the female likes to be left alone after awhile.  She prefers to do her own thing.  Though lately she has statred being more social.  Any ways I want to add another Ferret to the family and dont know what sex to get.  I get mine from Petco or Pet supermarket so there already fixed.  I always here that 3 Ferrets is the perfect number.

I dunno if there is a "perfect" number, I always thought the more the better. []  Really, three is a great number, for many reasons: they will have more fun, if one is tired the other two can still play, and when one passes (not fun to think about, but it eventually happens) there will still be two who can support each other through their depression.  As for male/female... I've never really noticed a big enough difference between their interactions, so I say go with whichever one you latches on to your heart...

Father of two:
Tanuuki (6 year male)
Mika (1 year female)

I have three ferrets and they are two boys and a girl. Three is a perfect number as someone else had already mentioned, and it definatly worked when one of mine fuzzy guys crossed the Rainbow Bridge...sniff... The two that were left still had fun. I got a girl then and everything worked out. If a young ferret is used to ones as it grows up it will be used to them later, so getting a younger than 1 ferret would be best. There will be no akwardness with the ferrets as they grow. I suggest you get a Rob (boy) ferret because the two boys will be able to play very early, social outcast shouldn't happen at all. If it was a girl then the two girls might like each other, but the boy would not be to well off. He might become a loner, and be excluded. This may sound like mumbo jumbo, but trust me as I have have ferrets for 4 years, and studied them the entire time. Leave the info if you like, but at least think about what I said.

3 is a good number......but 13 is better Just kidding

As long as you can afford to care for more ferrets then i say go for it, I'm a ferret math enabler   I am sure the right ferret will find you, thats how it normally works out. I have found that the girls are smarter and the boys are goffy.

The more the merrier , Anyways as far as the sex of the ferret, whether it be a male or female. You would want to take your two furkids to meet the prospective new baby. This way you can see some indication of which ferret will hopefully get along with the your group. Three is a nice number as it will be easy to litter train the new one. You might have to watch out for the new one being treated as an interloper thou. Remember, as long as there is no panic poop, blood drawn, drags, or puffy tails rough play is okay. Also some ferrets just prefer to be by themselves and you won't recognize that until the ferret actually gets older. I hope this helps

Remember, it is best when adopting a new ferret to keep the age of all the ferrets within 6 months.  That way, a younger, more active one won't pester the living daylights out of an older, more sedate one.  Plus, ferrets are like potato chips - can't stop at one!  Love all the little fuzzies!  I have 9 of them.

I have 4 fuzzies and I think the more the better! Lol
Anyway, I would get another female. 2 males might fight because they will want to defend their territory. So, a female would be your best bet.
I have 3 females and one male and they get along great!
Hope I helped!

PS. FuzzyCello's can not have had known about ferrets for 4 years. A male ferret is called a Hob not a Rob. That's the first thing I learned when I was researching ferrets. duh
