I would wait at least 4 weeks before introducing a new ferret to your male. This way it gives the surgerical area a chance to heal. I would NOT get an unaltered female(jill), as when she goes into season, she will stay in season until she is mated to a male. Failure to mate can result in DEATH to the jill as she will die from aplastic anemia. There is an excellent book called Ferrets for Dummies and there is a chapter on breeding ferrets. Your best bet would be to get an altered female(sprite). She will make a fine companion and you will not have to worry about the seasons at all. Hope this helps

Thank you for the reply, yes I know that females can stay in season wihtout the male but I was told by the lady that gave me the male that if he was castrated that the female would then not come into season, which I did question!.
I intended to leave my male for 6 weeks after his castration op before we started to look for a pal for him...How about another castrated male instead of a spayed female maybe? a friend of mine knows one who needs a new home?

| She probably meant to say if he was a 'vasectomized' male.
