If anyone can help with giving me ideas of how to get my ferrets unbored I would love it. They are interested in only playing with new toys for about 5 mins and then they are bored with it. And its getting harder to find things for them to play with. They used to have the run of most of my whole place, but we had to move and now they cna't have free reign anymore. I can't ferret proof my place that well, so for the saftey of my fuzzies I need to keep them in a play pen. Any ideas I would love to hear them!

Oh, the things we humans do for our little fuzzies! So they get bored with their toys. They need mental stimulation. Put a drop of liquid on a toy that they have not seen before and let them smell it (vinegar, vanilla, tabasco sauce, etc). I noted that you said they don't have free roam; maybe one time let them roam in your room? They love to explore and will have a blast. Ever have a ferret help unmake or make a bed? They love hiding under the covers and playing in dirty clothes piles. They need lots of interaction with you. Chase them, tickle them, make them "work" for their treats, etc. Anything you can think of doing with a toddler will work for ferrets. Keep it simple and fun, and they will have a blast!

Agreed, a drop of different scents on the toys will make them new. You can also make toys out of boxes like envelopes, shoe boxes, waffles, cereal. Cut a hole in the opposite end and let them crawl through it. Monitor them in a room with you. Make a dig box fill it with either rice, starch packing peanuts, dried beans, plastic eggs, etc... Take away half of the toys and switch them every day so they get a "new" bunch. Interaction like towel rides can be alot of fun, tickle the tummies. Hope that helps

weezilmom (4/10/2008) Put a drop of liquid on a toy that they have not seen before and let them smell it (vinegar, vanilla, tabasco sauce, etc). I would not use Tabasco sauce or vinegar they could cause eye irritations or upset tummy, try some no toxic scented oils, cooking extract, fast food bags or empty pizza boxes. Since they dont have a large area to roam rotate the toys every coulpe of hours and spend as much one on one time you can with them, humans make the best toys.
