Have you owned several types of small animal pets? If so, which one turned out to be the best pet for you? Why?

I am the happy caretaker of a multitude of species. We have eight cockatiels, seven cats, six ferrets and one Bells Hingeback tortoise.

They all have their own endearing qualities.

The cockatiels are so vocal and two of the boys will talk and one whistles the tune from the Andy Griffith show.

I've always had a deep love for cats, and always will. All of the cats I have I have found as strays or rescued. I just can't help myself.

Our tortoise is an odd duck. He was given to me by a co-worker whose daughter would not care for it properly, so that's how 'Cletus' came to live with us. He's very low maintenance, he eats every couple of days and I usually let him out of his cage to wander around the kitchen every three days. He can't get under or behind any appliances, so he's always safe.

I must say, in all honesty, that our six ferrets are my favorite. I can't imagine life without them. They and I always look forward to their daily romps out of their house, and it's like a furry free-for-all when they're scampering around the living room, zipping through their tunnels and playing with their toys! They are so animated and downright cuddly. I always have lots of 'help' while I'm cleaning their house, and they've discovered that when I'm finished cleaning their house, it's time for treats. They jump up on my lap and look me in the eye, as if to say, 'You know the routine'. I do adore my fur-kids and I know they love me by all the 'smoochies' I receive.

I have had several dogs, cats, a horse, a mouse, parakeet, cockatiels, fish and ferrets. I would have to say the best pet by far are my furkids. They are clowns, pranksters, and instigators of trouble. I like how they can figure things out to get to what they want. I have seen them move toys around to use them as stepping stones to try and get to forbidden places. I have seen them argue over the same toy or sleepy sack. Yep, ferrets have got to be the best. They have more personality than a dog or being owned by the cat.
