Hi,
We had to put down our 4.5 year old Rascal because of a very fast moving cancer that was spreading all over his body. It has been very difficult for my husband and I but we are coping the best we can. My concern is with Rascal's brother, Fuzzy. They have never been apart basically since the day they were born. How can we help him cope with the loss of his brother? He is eating and drinking as far as we know but he doesn't really want to play. When he is out of the cage he spends most of his time running around looking for Rascal. Has anyone else been through this? Anyone have any tips? We are worried we are going to lose Fuz to a broken heart.

Sounds like your little guy is missing his brother.  Is he eating and drinking?  Does he just lay down like a "flat weasel" and look at you?  Some ferrets do show signs of depression if their cagemate or buddy is missing.  Pay extra attention to him and engage him in play time.  Take him to new places to perk him up.  I've held my little fuzzies and explained to them that their buddy had to go to the rainbow bridge and will be waiting for them one day.

Thank you for your reply. Things have gotten a little better in the last couple days. We have been taking Fuzzy for daily walks and he has really perked up. We were never able to do that before because Rascal was a magician at getting out of his leash. Fuzzy really seems to love the walks, he gets so excited!!

Give him extra time and attention.  He seems to enjoy the walks- good.  Another idea is to bring in something from outside sometimes, like a rose.  Or move around his toys.  Do things that are stimulating for him.  I'm sorry for your loss.  It's a hard time.
