I heard that females get tumors more than males. Is that true? Or do both of sexes get tumors just as much? I have had females get them mostly.

I am the rat whisperer. I love rats and always will! Ratz Rule!

My current family includes- Teddy, Harold, Archie, Angel, Velma, Maya, Emily, and Marshmellow. All rats whom I love VERY much!

Females are more prone to getting mammary tumors and pituitary tumors than male rats. This is doe to the fact that females produce more estregen than boys do. However! A females chances of getting a tumor can be greatly reduced from 70% to 4% when a female is spayed (usually at a young age).

Hi,

I have two male rats and one has had an operation to remove two large tumers, the other one now has one on his belly as well. The vet said they are prone in their arm pits and lower part of their bellies due to cell regrowth. So now my other little baby has to have an op. !

For those whoes males got tumors, where did you get them?  The only person I have ever talked to who said their males got tumors they got their rats from a local mom and pop shop that bred them themselves, and I know for a fact that the shop knows very little about rat genetics, and only breed them for money.
