My piggie, Shakira, is not eating her Zupreem pellets but eats Ecotrition pellets. I cant give her Ecotrition because she is little overweight and it is not healthy. So I am giving her Zupreem pellets and she doesn't even touch them. What can I do?

If she won't eat the other brand of pellets then let her eat the Ecotrition pellets, just give her less of them.

I agree with animal girl's advice.  Animals get used to the way certain foods taste, and sometimes they favor the food that they're used to eating.  Please provide us with updates on your guinea pig's condition.

Yeah, animals definitely start to like the taste of one food then won't eat anything else. Like when I gave Bun Bun a cherry and she stopped eating greens for a while. Then she made me chase her around the neighborhood for ten minutes when she got out of her harness and only came to me when I gave her a cherry.

I'm not an expert, but are pellets the only thing that your piggie is eating right now?  Are you able to feed it vegetables?  That might help somewhat.

Guinea pigs eat almost the same thing as rabbits. Timothy hay, vegetables, and pellets. They should be given lots of timothy hay all day long, vegetables once in the morning and once in the evening and not a lot of pellets.

To switch her over to the zupreem pellets, start mixing the two together. Make it mostly ecotrition first, and then gradually every week, add more and more of the zupreem until she's weaned off of the ecotrition. I've had to do this with more than one of my hammies, and it seems to be the most effective way i've found.

By the way, what all are you feeding her? If it's just the pellets, I suggest you add timothy hay to it. The hay provides a snack between feedings (meaning you can cut down on the amount of pellets), and helps keep the teeth trim, plus most hamsters love it!

Generally the basic rule of feeding is 1-2 tablespoons of food 2 times a day. The amount depending on the breed and age of the hamster in question.

The oldest of my hamsters (3 years), Tramp, gets fed 2 tablespoons once a day, and always has timothy hay in the cage for munchies.
