| I just acquired 2 little female rats, a little less than half grown. I've been trying to tame them, but they don't seem to want to be handled and run away from me. I pick them up anyway, but one of them nipped me the other day. I've been giving them treats by hand and they accept those okay. They just don't want to be picked up. What's the best way to tame a rat? I don't want to make matters worse.

| hi, i had the same issue when i got my sweetheart. i used treats and she would take them and run. after she ate it i would reach in and grab her. she likes to sit on my shoulder forever. so she would run up there and i would reach back and pet her and build trust that way. now i have had her about a month or so and when she see's me walk in to the room she is at her door happy to get out and spend time with me. i'm sure that you have bonded by now but if not just take your time. they will bond when they are ready. you have to find out what they like, and what makes them feel safe. good luck.
