Ok so I apoligize if you are not supposed to post questions here but I am completlty new and sorry, I don't know.

Ok. So I am trying to litter train thumper. My end goal is to have him use only the litter box in a small room. That is the only place he will be aloud to go. How do I get started on this? when can he be completley trained?

     thank you soooooo much!

you want to start on this as soon as possible. start by trying to put the box where he usually goes. Dont try to get him to go where you want him to or it will be a never ending process. Be patient it might take awhile

Ok so I just wanted everyone to know that I have actually been working on this for a while.... it just isn't working. I started out with a regular cat litter box and after I put some of his own "pills" in there he started using it. The only problem was he just kept kicking over the sides, I mean like it was a HUGE mess. I then got a corner litter box and set it up in the corner where he usually goes but he refused to use it and started using the other corner. I moved the litter box and he switched corners. What I am asking is what should I do?

   thanks

Rabbits are habitual animals and will typically go in the same place.  It may sound odd but when Crosby was learning to use the potty, I put some of his poops and dirty bedding in the potty to help him to make the association.  It seemed to help.  I agree, try to place it where he tends to go or at least try to go.

Sorry, I just read your second post.  I'm not sure how other rabbits have been, but Crosby always makes a huge mess.  I wonder if that's just the way it goes.  Let's just say I vacuum everyday.  Also, our vet said to not use the clumping litter for rabbits.  Our other bunny would "sit" in her potty and it burned the bottom of her paws.  The vet said that it was due to the concentrated urine and said to make sure to avoid that litter in the future.  Just an FYI.

hi thumper its easy to potty train your rabbit heres how to train them.

1. get a litter box with a low front and a high back.(not a cat litter box or they will have a hard time getting into it.)

2. get yesterdays news (you can find it at a local pet store.) (cat litter can get a rabbit sick.)

3. lay news paper on the floor in case thumper does potty.

4. if he pottys more then 3 time on the news paper put vinegar on the news paper (rabbits hate the smell of vinegar and won't potty where it is)

5. if that doesn't work reply to my small animal channel my name is golddust im a golden brown mini lop.

                       hope i helped you out

Ok, well, you wanna start as soon as you can, so they can get that in thier minds. Some pretty basic tips are, get a medium sized litter box, depending on his/her size, and put some treats in there, this will cause it to poop(lol)since rabbits poop randomly anytime, and do that until it gets that in its mind, also, when you see it hasnt went potty outside the litterbox, reward it. Check out my page! Maybe we can be friends!Hope this helps some!

Lots of people posted, but nobody here actually gave the right info.

Before you even think about Litter training, your rabbit needs to be:

~Spay/Neutered

~Over 8 months old. It is almost impossible to train baby rabbits.

Now that you know the requirements, here is what the literbox should look like:

At the way bottom, newspaper. After the newspaper, 1 inch of yesterday's news. And on top of yesterday's news there should be timothy hay. Rabbits love to munch hay while pooping LOL.

Most shelter rabbits are already spayed and litertrained so I was very fortunate not have to do it myself although it really isn't that hard...

I hope this helps! If you have any questions please send me a message.

NEVER use clumping cat liter. It may actually kill a rabbit. I recommend Yesterday's News, Woodstove pellets, or CareFRESH bedding.
