Here are some suggestions:

You could have extra badges on the profiles for stuff like:

a. A special thanks to the members that are "outstanding" on SAC.

b. Every year you could have an easter egg hunt with eggs hidden all over the site and post the amount of eggs on their page as a badge.

c. Critter of the week


And you could maybe put a list of the top 100 critters with votes?

I think that we need to have an area for small animals in the wild in order to discuss the animals that we've seen!

BlancDeHotot:  Your suggestions are good ones, but they would work better for the "club critters" program.

I don't see a problem with recognizing members that have participated regularly or have been long-time members like you.  As our membership grows we may be able to try new ideas.
