Here are some suggestions:
You could have extra badges on the profiles for stuff like:
a. A special thanks to the members that are "outstanding" on SAC.
b. Every year you could have an easter egg hunt with eggs hidden all over the site and post the amount of eggs on their page as a badge.
c. Critter of the week
And you could maybe put a list of the top 100 critters with votes?

I think that we need to have an area for small animals in the wild in order to discuss the animals that we've seen!

| BlancDeHotot: Your suggestions are good ones, but they would work better for the "club critters" program. I don't see a problem with recognizing members that have participated regularly or have been long-time members like you. As our membership grows we may be able to try new ideas.

The only other thing that I can think of is having a random chat section.

Another thing that just popped up in my mind is more emoticons. For anyone that doesn't know what emoticon means, it is little faces that expresses emotions.

Since the main area for urgent matters is the small animal emergency section, how about an urgent section. This would be on the top of the page with URGENT answer needed quickly on it. You would see when there was a new post on it in Club Critter. That way people would get faster answers to serious questions, because people would see it right away. Just a suggestion, no hard feelings if no one likes it. Also animations of different small animals (hamsters,ferrets,rabbits, gerbils and so on) for your signature. Like if you owned ferrets you could have an animated ferret running around your signature. Again, no hard feelings. Just thought I'd share some stuff I thought would be cool.
