Rat breeders really dont care about what they are breeding and then selling to stores.. in my opinion.. they will breed any rat... with any genetic disorder. So long as they get their 5 bucks..

I have had to many itty bitty rats at the rat store and owners more than often the rats have major flaws..

Is there anything we can do?

I agree. There are VERY few good breeders of any animal in the world. They don't care, all they want is money. This is why I hate breeders.

It is horrible that people can just breed and breed rats to the point of them being prone to cancer. I rescued a rat from a pet store days before the whole place was abandoned, that place had overcrowded cages and were keeping animals of both sexes together, there were newborn hamster pups in a cage that also had many other hamsters in it and when i told them they didn't even care. when the rat i got from there was only one year old she got a tumor. It can happen to any healthy rat but she also had a respiratory infection and three more tumors. Its sad when an animal you love dies from the carelessness of others R.I.P Inky
